The House Project Category Known As...

"Is It Supposed To Look Like THAT?"
This is the Faux Wall that is really part of the kitchen cabinetry...that I decided to turn into a Big Magnetic Wall so I could move all the Really Important Stuff off the face of the fridge thus givin' the kitchen more of that Model Home Ambiance...
In Reality, I do realize I'm just makin' space for more Really Important Stuff on the face of the fridge...
Anyhoo...so what you have to do with this Magnetic Paint is apply 3 layers & then top coat with any latex paint...this is the second coat of latex paint...
I'm not sure this is going to have a Happy Ending that doesn't involve me sanding all of this mess off & just painting the dang Faux Wall with oil-based paint like the rest of the cabinets...
With Great Reluctance, I admit this may be my fault...since the Instructions say...in itty bitty print...to use a Roller with a 1/4" nap...well...it never crossed my mind that you would use a roller on paint of any stripe that comes in a small can...so I was already half-way through the magnetic primer coats before I saw that Little Bit of What Seems to Have Been Important Information...
Really...the only thing that makes me more irritated than Royally Screwing Something Up is Royally Screwing Something Up & Having No One to Blame But Myself...
Oh wait...there IS something that makes me even more irritated...Royally Screwing Something Up, Having No One to Blame But Myself and Then Havin' to Fix the Mess I Made to Begin With...

Ugh...oh that itty bitty print! Sorry you're not pleased with the outcome...but once you get the "stuff" from the fridge placed on there, maybe you won't see the wall? :)...sorry, I'm probably not helping.lol

Mmmm...I haven't used that paint before so I don't have any words of advice. I'm sure you'll come up with something - can you just go over what you've already done with a roller? It's a great idea!

What a neat idea, hope the third coat helps it turn out like you want. I have been there done that with screwing up projects. If it doesn't come out have you thought about covering it up? Like putting up corkboard that comes in rolls over it and triming it with wood so it looks like a huge inspiration board? My laundry room project I am working on has that above a doorway on the wall.Or maybe even painting chalkboard paint over? Don't know how it would go over that type of paint. I hate it when products have important info in tiny print I always find it after I have finished -groan... anyway good luck with it.

What's the verdict? I've seen them use the magnetic paint on tv. Where did you find the paint? DD and I tred to find it a while back for her room, but no one carried it.

well, Mr G took pity on me & sanded the paint & is repainting it for me :)

yes, Bell-ah, the little flat magnets are sticking...I haven't tried the round little hard ones yet (don't want them to slide & mess things up worse than I have)

Cathy...I found it at Lowe's...I'm pretty sure it is by the same people who make the chalkboard paint...it ain't cheap...$20.97, I believe, for whatever size that can is...quart?

Manuela, I think I'm going to ask Mr G to use a roller for the top coat...this brush foolishness is not cutting it!

pink-bee :) I used the cork squares & the chalkboard paint to make a really big, um, More Really Important Stuff Board That Wouldn't Fit on the Fridge :) LOL...can you tell I rip entirely too much stuff out of magazines?!

but if this wall doesn't start lookin' like something decent here shortly, it will be a case of Movin' On to Something Else :)

Hi, and thanks for stopping by my garden. Those flowers are Echiums. That one in aparticular is called Pride of Madera, or common name Candy Cans. I have another one called Cobalt Towers that is twice the size and very magestic. I clipped the flowers last year and laid them flat on the ground just behind the bush and now I think I have about 70 little seedlings coming up. I will pot them up. Loved the music on your site. How did you do that???? Hope to talk to you again soon.

Urgh-you poor thing! I hate it when things don't go according to plan! Hope it works out well in the end!

Mrs. G, hope all is well now & that the paint is to your satisfaction. Yes, there is nothing worse than a foiled decor project. I hate when that happens, like when I spilled a 1/2 can of wood stain on my carpet while redoing an armoire in the bedroom. There is now a pretty decorative sisal rug over it & I don't think about it anymore, but boy, was I bummed for days!

Just LOVE that music every time I come inot your blog. I think you will have much success and pleasure from growing some echiums. If you were closer to me I could share some of those tiny seedlings with you. I am VERY excited about those. What is your climate like? I live in a cold place, but warm summers. We are just heading into winter now, and I think it may snow this year - but it doesn't always. Between 1 and 7 on cold days in winter and up to 30 or 40 degrees in summer time. Good luck with them

hey, ya'll :)

well...it doesn't look as great as I thought...and I'm not overly impressed with the magnetic nature of the wall...those little flat peel-off magnetics do fine, but the big round ones that you use to hang papers all about the fridge aren't working too well...so disappointing...but I'll post pixs & let ya'll see it isn't a total mess any more...

Annie, I just bought some seeds off of e-bay! 50 of them...I figure that gives me a fighting chance :)

our January & February can have some cold nights days...upper 20s to lower 30s(fahrenheit), but those aren't too plentiful (maybe 5 to 10 times a year)...the really cold stuff doesn't hang about too long...and summers are, generally, hot...today we're havin' a cool day (85*F high) but the rest of the week will be in the low to middle 90s...

I'm so hoping I can grow these beautiful plants :)

it's all about the journey...
